Audition Material and What to Expect
Your audition will be with a live band. We ask to the best of your ability come prepared being able to play a two octave scale in the keys of B major and D major. Sometimes there are songs that we play that have specific string parts, but more often the string player will have to use improvisation. Scales help show that a player will be able to improvise within songs. We do believe improvisation is a great skill to have and develop but we also realize it definitely takes time and practice. The songs we will have you improvise to is Sinking Deep found under the Piano/Keys section of the website and Good, Good Father (key of A) found under the Worship Leaders section. If you hear a string part in the song, do your best to mimic the basic idea of it. If you are not hearing a specific part then we ask you improvise over it. Please be tasteful with what you prepare, try not to let it take away or distract from the version of the song but let it enhance the song.
Other things to keep in mind while preparing are making sure intonation is attainable and rhythm is on point.
Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns before Saturday.
